This was just reported in Wednesdays Los Angeles Times (Feb 11, 2004)

Robert W. Selig, a motion picture distribution executive who helped create and then headed the annual ShoWest convention, which touts mainstream movies to theatre owners, has died. He was 93.
Selig, who retired only eight years ago, died Dec. 31 in Los Angeles of complications from a fall.
In 1974, Selig, along with Pacific Theatres head Jerome Forman and B.V. Sturdivant, huddled at Los Angeles International Airport to create a trade show where the people who made the movies could discuss their wares with those who marketed them. The first gathering in San diego in 1975, attracted only 200 people.

I knew Bob Selig slightly.I admired him for his tireless energy and his desire to make ShoWest the biggest and best theatre owners convention. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. He will be missed in the industry

I first met Mr. Selig about 25 years ago, when I first gave a presentation at ShoWest with Ken Mason, founder of the Inter-Society Committee for the Enhancement of Cinema Presentation. At the time, Mr. Selig headed the Theatre Association of California, which was separate from NATO. His dedication during the early years of ShoWest helped make it the important "event" it is today.

Showmen like Mr. Sehlig will be missed.
