We seem to have a few small, independent theatre owners here. Mike says he takes Chirstmas Eve and Christmas day off. We will have no such luxury as we are in a town with competition.

My hope is that we can run the matinees Christmas Eve and take the evening off. We will be open on Christmas of course, because what do people do after they have opened their presents? They use their gift certificates and go to the movies. We do know that the two films we will be opening for Chrismas will open Friday 22.

Poll, what are your plans opening your theatres on Christmas?

Closing for Christmas Day is radical! We do that. While many people want to go to the movies on Christmas Day almost no one wants to work. I have a big family here and I least of all feel like cranking the film through and missing out on this one day a year. I know we're out of step.

We too show a matinee on Christmas Eve and that's very fun. People drop off kids and hustle off to shop.

That's the only danged 1 1/2 day in the year we close! I say to thems who grunts unghappily...."Deal with it!"

If mine was currently open I would be closed Christmas day. I never understood why som many wnat to come to the movies on that day. When I worked for the big boys they of course were open every minute they thoought they could make a buck (even if it cost more in staff than patrons in the theatre) When I do open I will have competetion but I do not thin that being closed Christmas day will affect me. I agree with Mike if people have a problem get over it.

My Holiday policy:
Christamas eve ~ Matinee Only
Christmas day ~ Evening Only
Starting dec. 26th ~ Matinee and Evening every day through Jan 1st.

Oh...by the way. Between Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas eve, I only run weekends...Fri-Sat-Sun. Those weekdays are my vacation!

Unless I change my mind AGAIN, I plan on being closed the entire week before Christmas and Christmas Day. I plan on opening the 26th and stay open daily through New Years.

I am curious about Thanksgiving. In my three years here I have not been open and I think my predecessor was always closed the entire holiday season. I plan to be open for at least two showings this year. What has been your experience for the best showtimes on Thanksgiving Day?

Thanksgiving can be a very good day if I have a popular film, however all the business is at night. Matinees are a waste, so I haven't done one on Thanksgiving for years.

If you have the big picture...Toy Story, 101 Dangnabbits, etc. Thanksgiving evening can be huge. I like the Week of Christmas-New Year all mats every day idea.

WOW!. You learn something new every day. I didn't think first run theaters had a choice about closing ever. I though we HAD to stay open every day of the year to stay first run. You've got me thinking. Maybe I don't have to hassle with a 4 show Christmas Day. 2:00 show does nothing anyway. I think guilt would get me if I close down totally. I know I feel guilty when people show up on Christmas Eve for a 7:00 show. That's the one day we close early. I always feel sorry for the people who come esp. on Christmas Eve night. They have to have no family at all. At least the way it is now.

As said above, Thanksgiving Weekend can be huge if the film is there. We run 3 shows on Wed, 4 on Thurs, Fri and Sat and get back to normal with 3 on Sunday.

Best show times for us are the 5 and 7:00 showings. 9:00 showings are never as busy in winter.

you can be open when you want more or less its when do you think you are going to make any thing at it. Christmas day mats do nothing we always opened at 4pm I really did not want to be open but corp said so. Since turning indie I will set my own policys as I see fit.

Once again, our theatre is in a town of 150,000 and with three other movie theatres.

Monday, December 9th No Shows after 8:00 PM Staff Party

Wednesday, December 24th No Evening Shows I would stop after the second showing, But if we have 5:00 shows, Ky will probably like to run them. What does he care, he will be out of town.

Thursday, December 25th Full Schedule

Friday, December 26th Extra day of MOVIES IN THE MORNING

Wednesday, December 31st No Shows after 8:00 PM

Thursday, January 1st Full Schedule

Friday, January 2nd Extra day of MOVIES IN THE MORNING

Christmas Eve matinees, Christmas day, evenings, from the 26 through Jan 4th matinees every day.
LOTR sucks with this EVE matinee thing, second show starts at 4:30 may have to cancel that one. We do well on all holidays, but last year we got over a foot of snow on Christmas and I cancelled the shows.

Dec 24: 10:00am until 7:00pm shows
Dec 25: 10:00am until 9:45pm shows
Dec 26 to Dec 30: 10:am until 9:45pm shows
Dec 31: 10:00am until 7:00pm shows
Jan 1: 10:00am until 9:45pm shows

We only close early on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and 4th of July. We are never closed completely, and normally run evening shows Mon-Thu and morning and evening shows Fri-Sun. If school is out of session, we are open all day.
