Every Sept (running late this year!) we play catch up and book the best pics that we missed during the summer focusing on art-foreign-etc. So far we have: Winged Migration, Magdeleneand maybe Thirteen. If you had to reccomend 2-3 that MUST be on the list: what would ye say? Sisters, Whale Rider, Le Divorce, American Splendor, If you could suggest 2-3 that must be included?

I'm trying for the Lost but it's just opening so a bit of a problem.

Thanks!

Our big summer hits:

Winged Migration
Whale Rider
Northfork
Spellbound

Capturing the friedman's is ok

I'd include CAMP because it's a musical and a lot of fun.

Have you already played Nowhere in Africa? If not, be sure to include it. It did fantastic biz for us.

I'd skip Le Divorce...it's a dog.

Dirty Pretty Things is also well worth including. And I think I still have trailers

To tell you the truth, Winged Migration bombed for us. Mainly clusters of old ladies, too, who usually just pass the candy bar anyways, and get mad that the smallest popcorn is 85 oz.!

BTW, We dropped it after one week.

Spellbound, Winged Migration, Dirty Pretty Things, Swimming Pool, and (especially) Whale Rider all lasted a long time around here. Camp seemed to bomb because it got awful reviews and didn't stay anywhere in these parts more than a week or two.

Chatting with Ian earlier this summer he said "You've got to play Winged Migration! It's crack for old ladies." Ever since I've had old ladies come up to me like I was their dealer and they hd a bad case of the needies! "Are you going to get Winged Migration?" as they clutch my arm and stare into my eyes.

Depending on your audience demographics – you might consider screening “Step Into Liquid”.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago here in Pasadena. It was a “continuation” of Bruce Brown’s 1964 classic, “The Endless Summer”.

The photography is very good, especially watching the surfers go against the 65’ high waves off the coast of California. The soundtrack is NOT your typical 1964 surfing music – it’s loud, hard, and very contemporary - but I suspect the “under 20” crowd would enjoy it!

I loved the incredible surfing sequences, but the soundtrack was a bit over the edge for me – but then, I’m one of those bitchy “broads” that enjoyed “Winged Migration”! BTW - if the theater food is fresh, (e.g., the hot-dogs are not black or green), I always buy more than I should - that's why I weigh 397 lbs)

I never said "bitchy" I said "old ladies" and the two can be quite different.

Mike,
How will you run these 7? All the same week? Will you continue to run your regular blockbusters?
