I am considering having one night a week that we show movies in Spanish to hopefully attrct our growing Latino Population. My goal is to make lack luster Weds night turn into a profit maker.

Has anybody out there had experience in this area? Know anything about the availability of Prints?

Would love to hear about your thoughts or experiences.

We schedule art films for every Weds. during the fall and winter and it does help. I'm sure there's a ton of specialized Spanish distribs and the Box Office and Film Journal issues that cover distribution each year would list them. The nice thing about the less than major distribs is that they're very happy to get a date and don't make you beg. Keep in mind that the majors WILL mind if you double a print over theirs.

Very tricky. It depends on a lot. Are you near competition that will rat? Are you so far away that no one cares? How many screens do you have? Can you double only when there's a film that's older? Doubling is a whole subject in itself. I'll start one.But first... Key questions are ...how many screens? What do you play currently?

We are a single screen theatre that seats 900 people.

We show 2nd run films and often show a G or PG at 7:00 and an R at 9:00 on weekdays. Most of the distributors are cooperative with us doing this with a few exceptions.

We are very close to significant competition, but they are all 1st run. It is rare that we show movies that they still have on the screen, but it does happen occasionally.

By Spanish do you mean "West Side Story"? Just kidding!

Sounds like you have an arrangement that you can pretty much do what you want. Put together a short calender of 6 weeks on Weds night and make up a nice flyer. When we have in a pic and we're running the art film we sonmetime add an earlier show so the regular picture that's playing that week gets a showing instead of being knocked off. But in 2nd run I hear that they don't care so much. Let us know.
