I had a question posed to me that is outside my area of expertise, so I’m hoping someone on here can offer some insight. There is a micro-cinema in my town that shows independent films that aren’t carried by the chain theater. They currently receive the films on Blu-ray discs, mostly shipped through Magnolia. They are looking at having to upgrade their projection/sound equipment. They’re basically looking at a high end home or business projector, as a professional machine would be out of their price range. My concern for them is whether they will be able to continue to receive product on the current format, or if the boutique distributors will end up going to CRUs as well. If this is a viable format for the forseeable future, does anyone have any recommendations on what digital projection and sound equipment they should invest in? Crowds are limited to about 50 people at the max. I don’t have dimensions of their auditorium, but it is small. Any feedback/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
