I still don't think any of the majors stop that soon, but I expect the number of film prints struck to continue to shrink. Glad we have a feasible digital strategy, seems like many indies still don't.

Disney, Warners, Paramount, and Universal just signed a deal with Kodak to continue to buy millions of feet of 35mm film through December 2015. Film ain't dead yet!

I've also heard that AMC Theaters has immediately halted any further digital video conversions in their circuit.

Prints are in such supply this September that some theaters are playing DVD as nothing else is available.

The AMC issue is more likely to be about the provider of digital as there are new owners .
Still an interesting rumor.

Fuji To Cease Motion Picture Film Manufacturing By End Of The Year?

By NANCY TARTAGLIONE, International Editor | Friday, 7 September 2012 20:50 UK

EXCLUSIVE: Fujifilm won a Sci-Tech Oscar this year for its contribution to motion pictures, but Deadline hears the division of the company that produces motion picture film is set to close by December 31. A Fuji spokesperson said they were unauthorized to answer any questions. However, industry sources say they are aware of the plans. “They clearly are going around telling people,” one says. Fuji film is used for about 20% of studio business with Kodak repping the other 80%, I’m told. While there remain stalwarts, fewer movies are shot on film today and eventually, a source opines, no one will be manufacturing it. However, film is still considered the best medium for archival preservation given the unknowns surrrounding the future of digital archives. In that regard, there’s a bigger general question facing the industry as it tries to work out what will be the best long-term solution.

I just heard a national chain is going to be re-installing 35mm film equipment in several of their multiplex theaters. Not just a few houses in the complex, all houses in the buildings.

The only logical reson to converting back is if there reusing the digital on other locals and running out the leases in the 35 houses .

I also heard this. The chain is installing just 35 mm equipment, no sound equipment. They've placed a huge order for pianos. The Mary Pickford Estate is very excited.
