Quick question, maybe a stupid question...

How is per cap calculated? Is it as simple as total concession sales / patrons? Is it net or gross? Are costs accounted for?

We're trying to figure out what a national per cap average of say, $3.25, means for us. If costs are not accounted for, what are those average costs for concessions as a percentage of sales? I imagine tax is not accounted for.

If it matters, we'll be serving beer, wine, coffee in addition to popcorn, candy and soda.

Thanks for your help.

There are a few questions here first -per capita is sales divided by attendance. Second an individual per cap can varie depending on many issues . Beer and wine theaters can be from $ 5.00 to $15.00 depending what kind of films they play and the age demographic .

per cap for total sales includes ticket and concession divided by the total attendees and concession per cap is just concession sales divided by total attendees. All ticketing software such as RTS have this as a basic report on every day or whatever time period reports.

Thanks slapintheface and Mike. I appreciate your help.

Follow up, I've read on these forums and elsewhere that the national per cap is, specifically, $3.25. Slap, you say $5 to 15 for beer and wine venues. I'm assuming this refers to concessions per cap. Yes? And it sounds like we're talking gross sales here right? Any idea what that would make net sales? What kind of average costs are typically associated with concessions operations.

Again, thanks guys. Our team has some good experience working with distributors and booking, but we need some help on this aspect.

Cheers!

A $ 6.00 glass of wine cost about $ 1.25 --also--offer a double wine for $ 10.00 a big hit and raises per caps fast.

IC-- I gave a lector 2 years ago on concessions at the ART HOUSE CONVERGENCE in Utah, for there members. Perhaps they have a digital copy you could get. It covers everything in this area.
