just received this note.....

I was vastly gratified to read the article about the care you took with the Brenkert Projectors which you recently removed from your theaters. My grandfather was Karl Brenkert Sr, the founder of Brenkert Light and Projector Co and my father, Karl Brenkert Jr invented the Geneva mechanism used in them. Thank you for showing such respect. My dad died just last year and I know he would have appreciated this, too.

Thanks.

I LOVE my Brenkerts! Will be sad the day they are not usable anymore!

The Brenkerts and its RCA counterpart and the Motiographs were my favorite projectors when I was running change-over booths.

Brenkerts are what we had at the now demolished Sunset Drive-in Theater in Tumwater Washington. We had a pair of BX-80's and they ran perfectly. Best 35mm projectors ever made!

The Brenkert family contacted me and wants to buy some old projectors. Know of any out there?

Mike,

Did not you say the picture you have now with digital is much better than you had with these machines?

I have very fond memories of the Bx-60's having run them from 1987 to probably 2000. However, for digital sound and a steady pcture it is hard to beat the Kinoton pk 60. Regardless both are bound for lobby displays, museums or the junkyard. The pictures online of rows and rows of pulled projectors is a sad testament to the inevitability of progress.

I have 4 Brenkert BX-60's. One is in service at my theatre, and the other 3 are used as parts donors. Actually I've never needed to scavenge parts off the others yet, so I guess they are all still intact. My current BX-60 I'm using at the theatre will be in service until the first week in December of this year, then everything comes out and will be replaced with a Barco DP-2K23B. It's currently riding atop an RCA 9030 soundhead, backed with Xenex 1 4kw lamphouse. Other than it occasionally drifting out of focus, it's never given me a problem.

Long ago... I bought a Brenkert baseball cap from this site. Still have it and love it.
