Do not ask me why. I hope it will be good. But I am nervous. Disney is swinging for the fences! I am psyched about Huger Games but wonder how deep devotion can be for a movie that features 24 cute young kids who must kill each other as quickly as possible?

Here is a quote from boxoffice . com on Carter:

"John Carter is shaping up to be one of the biggest financial disasters of all time. Carter's bloated $250 million budget will make it very difficult for Disney to make a profit. That kind of budget is usually reserved for well-known directors working with A-list actors. Carter boasts neither.

Fandango reports that John Carter accounts for a paltry 4% of daily sales.

John Carter looks poised for a $25 million debut from more than 3,500 locations."

I've been skeptical of John Carter as well and Disney seems to be in hyper overdrive about it like it's going to be a big one. I smell a flop (at least here). I'm thinking Lorax will be our high grosser again this week. Super stoked about Hunger Games--it seems like everyone I talk to has read the books and is dying to see the movie, including myself.

Disney needs to stay away from anything concerning the plant Mars. First 'Mars Needs Moms' and now this. It wouldn't have been such a bad deal for Disney if the production costs were closer to $25 million than $250 million, not including P&A costs of at least another $50 million. Andrew Stanton gave us 'Finding Nemo' and Wall-E', so he can be forgiven for this. But it's going to make Disney think twice the next time someone proposes a $250 million budget event movie.

Expect to see more of those micro-budgeted type movies in the future, like 'Chronicle', 'Project X', and 'Paranormal Activity', and less mega-budgeted movies without a large dedicated fan base, like 'Cowboys & Aliens' and 'John Carter'.

No Stars + Dull Title + Unfamiliar Source Material = Flop.

"John Carter" sounds like some tepid political drama.

double eek. The problem is that even if it was a great story and new bold story: there's no time: it must perform from day one or be gone. Leaves no options for the distribs.
