How does this work. Alot of theatres are hosting Oscar events! How is this done? They are charging aroudn 20.00. How can you charge for an event on TV?

We are showing the Oscars via a DISH Network commercial license. We do not charge for admission, as that is technically not allowed under the license agreement.

Even with a commercial license, I believe you still needed permission from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

For the other theaters showing it and charging, it just shows their ignorance and arrogance. None of us want customers pirating our films, yet some of us don't think twice about playing the radio or CDs in our lobbies (you need to pay ASCAP fees and thus pay the artist otherwise it's illegal rebroadcast) or charging for the Oscars (theft, directly from our industry) or installing software licensed for one machine on 2,3,or 4 (or more) of them.

We can't expect our customers to behave when we don't do it ourselves.
