The opening Friday numbers on LION KING were very good. Did people come out for a great films re- release or did they come for the 3d or both? Is it because the studio claims the pic will only be out for 2 weeks? The the numbers should be very good with Sat and Sun matinee with the kids off from school.

Perhaps 3d has a future with tent pole pictures if the market does not continue to be flooded with nonsense 3d pictures.

Also families were starving for something good to go out and see. Spy Kids just didn't fill the void for many families.

Is anyone here, or do you know of anyone that is playing Lion King in 2D? If so, is it doing the reported excellent business on the 2D screens as well, or only on the 3D screens?

In the KC area there are many theaters running it in 2d and 3d. Good to offer choices. 3d does have the later afternoon and prime time show times though.

Every theater in my area playing it has 2D for one showtime only, very early matinee (11:00 AM) - it doesn't sound like they are giving 2D much of a chance.

Most studios are now allowing 2d/3d splits. Yes, Disney seems to be allowing the least number of 2d shows and they are the early shows. The latest I saw were ones starting around 2pm. They are still good show times though. Our experience is that a kid friendly movie are more popular early in the day. Our 12:30 show is usually better than our 7pm show. It is still a choice and you need to give credit to the studios for allowing a choice.

The theater I run is giving 2D a chance. We have a 3D screen and a 2D screen. The 3D screen is outpacing the 2D one 3-1. For every 2D show with 50 customers, the 3D one is doing 150. 3D is the key.
