From our industry press:

"Movie ABC" is off to an impressive start despite playing at only xxx locations. The location average was $5550

while

"Movie XYZ" was able to rake in a modest $xx million. The location average was $5608.

Both of those seemed to do pretty well IMO.

seems like the biggest battle is that of expectations.

If they are opening it in 12 major cities the "impressive" might apply. It is an indicator. If it opened at 2500 screens it might be modest. There's a lot in the cost of distribing that comes to bear.

The first movie was "The Conspirator" while the second one was "Atlas Shrugged".

Conspirator: 707 locations, $3.5m, $4963 location average
Atlas: 299 location, $1.6 m, $5640

I am sure the writer's feelings toward the latter movie had no bearing on his choice of words ;).
