very light attendance for Kick. Everyone absolutely raves about it when they come out but it is:blink: bombing big time. Others?

Nikke Finke over at Deadline Hollywood Daily is talking $7.5 million Friday gross for possibly a $19 million opening weekend. Not so good for the y/y box office grosses this weekend.

Nice review score over at Rotten Tomatoes (76% Fresh) but looks like the Cinescore is running firmly in B- territory. I swung by a 1:20 showing at my local place and only had about 35 seats filled in a 420 seat main auditorium. Not that a lot of folks are probably catching an R-rated superhero flick around noon on a Saturday, but not quite the reception was expecting given the hype and awareness around it.

My guess is that the folks who normally drive comic book/superhero films (e.g. families) probably might be turned off a bit by the R-rating as well as the 11 year old girl who routinely uses the f-word while simultaneously stabbing someone through the chest. I personally enjoyed the hyper-violence and swearing, but I can imagine how it could easily turn off a lot of folks.

It was beat by Dragon and Titans in my theatre. :( What was weird was watching the absolutely perfect age / demographic person buying tickets to Titans, which sucks, and then idiots bringing little kids to see it. The little girl seems to have confused people both ways: some older people think it is a kid movie and the target demo also think the same. Word of mouth is great. I have not heard one person say anything but that they love it.

The weekend gross was not too bad for no star power, a release from a smaller studio, rated r, the premise being done a few times, etc....

The target age group does not care about critics. Actually Titans does have a 6.2 score on IMDB which is pretty decent. Titans was the more marketed movie and I bet that group still left happy Mike.

IMHO, rotten tomatoes only is a good tool for picking art-house movies. IMDB is much better for most movies.

This movie should have decent legs. Thankfully for it there is not much coming in the next 2 weeks.

Very lite here too as it was across the country. I don't know if they did a good job of viral marketing. Today I can find the facebook site easy but last week it did not bubble to the top at all.
