We only have 35 mm film @ theHIPPODROME , so I have never played a film that was also available in 3d --day and date.
Today we opened CLASH OF THE TITANS in 2d with twelve other screens in a 20 mile radius playing the film with 5 of those in 3d. Our gross was $ 2,200.00

So not great but better than I would have thought!

Slap,

In my district, a 2d with 3d competition can expect on average 65% or so of a normal 2d comparable while the 3d are at least 50% busier.

How was you district rank on this vs normal? Did you say you did $60,000 on Star Trek?

Last night grosses were comparable to Avatar. yes, Titans has thursday prime time shows but Avatar had much more buzz.

Based on the previous opening weekend numbers for various films, stereoscopic 3D films (since the beginning of 2009 when i started tracking this) do on average between 8-10x their 2D counterparts on a per screen basis on their opening weekend.

That per screen multiple (3D vs 2D) contracts into the 4-6x range over the life of the film, but doesn't fully ever disappear until a film loses its 3D screens.

BWT,

What are you seeing on a 3d vs 2d basis looking at the theaters with 3d? For example: Charlie & The Chocolate Factory vs. Alice in Wondeland?

Your numbers are to be expected since the top grossing theaters have 3d since the studios are paying VPFs to them for the digital equipment.

@rufusjack:

I'll check my data and get back to you tonight - one caveat though, since there hasn't been a bunch of 3D product that has had to compete from week to week prior to 'Alice', the 3D vs older 3D comparisons might be a little skewed.

I'll definitely post something tonight and maybe see if I can link the spreadsheet I use to track everything.
