thanks Disney for Alice. Makes for a very nice March! We're up 25% over last year before March! Alice should goose that nicely!

Hi Mike,

Just curious, are you playing in 3D or 2D?
If 2D, do you have a 3D house near you?
We passed on ALICE since we don't have 3D and 2D AVATAR totally bombed with us, so figured it was a good call to pass on ALICE in 2D. Just trying to see if we made the right call.

Mindframe, This is the Elkader Cinema about fifty miles northeast of you. We passed on Alice because of the three week deal but I expect big crowds when we do bring it in. Avatar was so good for us that we are bringing it in for another week.

Alice has not done as well for us as I had hoped. Still glad I brought it in as nothing else would have grossed what it had.

It seems to be skewing to an older crowd (young adults) which is not our best demo. Parents who I have talked to who have not seen it, are concerned about Tim Burton's previous work (not the most mainstream) and whether or not it is too scary for little ones.

We have seen more and more people opt for 3d 20 mins and 30 mins away but this one is hard to find a comparable. Where The Wild Things Are? (Looking at 3000+ locations). any suggestions for comparables?

my thoughts on comps are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory due to the Burton/Depp/weird factors. We did well with it many weeks after the break and then throw the 3D in as well and Alice should be a good week for us.

We had Alice in 2D with 3D competition about 6 miles. We were #18 in the STL DMA on opening weekend. We are the go to family low cost theatre in the area. In fact I got a facebook message from someone who was in town from St. Louis for another event. Saw us and stoped to see Alice. They had a great time and said they would make the drive back becuase we were such a cool old theatre.
