I know this questions may be a little hard to answer but what would most theater owners consider fair market value of their holdings? My family used to own a small town business and we sold it for last fiscal year profit*5 + value of the assets(land&buildings etc). Trying to just get a feel for the theater business, if it would work the same when purchasing.

Very tricky ground. The smaller an outfit; the less you'll really know what was going on. The books that we looked at prior to our purchase/sale were useless. In the end it was seat of the pants and we were lucky because we doubled the business in a year. If it's a larger outfit: why do they want to sell? Is there such a thing as fair market? Real estate-cost of equip/furnishings-vs. competition/neighborhood/ etc. If you know nothing consider consultants to get you through the door.
