I am new to this site as of about 5 minutes ago. We are a 1 screen 90 seat theater on the Island of Nantucket - 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod MA. As of right now we are the only year round operating theater on the Island. The 1 other theater closed about 2 years ago and they will reopen in another 2 years. When we purchased this 18 months ago there was a booking agent in place. Unfortuately, it did not work out and since my brother had worked for the previous owners he took over booking the movies. We are now running into the problem of no one wants to deal directly with us and many companies do not want to send a film to such a small theater. I have hunted through the internet for a new agent and I am unable to find anyone in our area. My first question is does the booking agent have to be directly in the area of the theater? and does anyone have suggestions on where to find agood agent?

Welcome Starlight:

No your booker does not have to be in your area. I would recommend Frank Rash of Theatre Booking Service. He's located in Beatrice, Nebraska. His number is (402) 223-5119. When I was GM of a 248 seat single screener in Iowa in '06 he booked the theatre exactly the way I wanted it booked and kept me booked a month in advance. At that time he charged me $150 a month.
Good luck.

i own a theater in Massachusetts. A couple years ago when Dreamland lost their projectionist i came in and helped for a short time until a projectionist i recommended was hired. I came down and helped because Dreamland and I have the same broker and he called me and asked me to help them. His name is Jeff Goldman at MiniTheatres and he can be reached at 347 587 6700. He goes beyond just booking when you have a problem
