Hi all! I own a movie theater with my husband and am 17 weeks pregnant. It dawned on me recently that being in the projection booth with the xenon bulbs running may not be favorable to the developing fetus. The doctors in my area can't seem to find anything about whether it has been studied and found to be safe or unsafe. I don't know a whole lot about what, if any, emissions a bulb might produce through the lamphouse.

Does anyone have any thoughts or insight on this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have never heard this before. A xenon short-arc projection lamp is a sealed unit so if there was any kind of radiation it wouldn't get outside the lamp and lamp houses are insulated (for heat) or double walled. It's unlikely there is any danger to your baby. But why not check with Sylvania. They distribute Osram lamps (made in Germany) here in the U.S. Their phone # is 978-777-1900. BTW, congratulations! I have five (now grown) myself.

So that's why my kids ack the way they do!

In all seriousness, we too own a theatre, and my wife was constantly in the booth during her pregnancy of baby #3.... we had no problems whatsoever.

I would be curious to find out what Sylvania/Osram had to so on the matter.. for future reference.
