After battling cell phone users and even making some progress I ran into another situation. I caught a person playing a Sponge Bob movie on a portable DVD player. The light from the DVD screen was much more distracting than a cell phone and my customers sitting behind the DVD screen were mad. When I approached the offending party and asked them turn it off, they seemed surprised I would ask such a thing. They said they saw my no cell phone policy posters but did not see anything about DVD players. They were simply trying to entertain their child so he would not disturb the movie. The mom left with child and the DVD player but was not very happy with me. What Next? cuemarks

Nothing surprises me anymore. I just hit 14 years owning the Colonial this week. The theatre opened on the day Titanic set sail. The ship not the movie. 1912 will and 2012 (3 years!) is our 100 years! The hardest thing we do is asking nice people who are our neighbors to please take the kid out. DVD player? I'd look at them like they were crazy. .

The next thing will be full sized laptops with video games, or e-mails or their homework. And they won't see anything wrong with that either.

Sounds like one of those unfortunate situations where you just can't please everybody.

We see those DVD players at our drive-in, though they're usually the built-in kind, mounted high, where they shine in the dark like a spotlight.

I don't recall that we've ever had any real resistance when we ask them to turn them off. Usually, explaining that people are being distracted by the second show in the back of their vehicle does the trick.

Come to think of it, there are a few other scenarios where that speech works, too.

Guess I have been lucky not having to deal with DVD players at our drive in.
I could see that being a problem. cuemarks
