The premier of Cinema Training Central was in May but I am now hearing of people attending this training facility in Buffalo to learn the operations of cinemas from booth to concession. This school is run in an 8 screen cinema coverted to a lab and school and is operated by Entertainment Equipment Corporation 800-448-1656 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I wish it had been around when I was getting started! What do you think of this?

I am a new owner and took the course last week. It was cut short and greatly abbreviated by the tragic events of Tuesday the 11th. Clearly everyone's focus and interest level changed. Based on this I couldn't really give an endosement either way other than to say that you should really check out there offerings for the particular week you are going as some topics are not going to apply to all (or most)operators. My week was scheduled to have nearly half the seminar time devoted to digital cinema projection and in the first 10 minutes most participants(and the lecturer)determined that this was not generally economically feasible for either mainstream exhibitors or studios for at least 10 years. Thus much of the scheduled time was to be spent of an issue most agreed would not be of immediate use other than to understand it and keep an eye of the topic. The staff was helpful in one-on-one and willing to answer any questions. Great facility and competent staff. They need to fine tune topic offerings. Can't really criticize how it came off as we were sidetracked by the awful terrorist attacks and at the time nobody attending the seminar really wanted to do other than watch TV, call loved ones or go home. Jim L. is a great guy and he runs the show there.

While I have not had the chance to attend any of the training sessions, I can vouch for the quality of programs that Jim Lavorato and his staff have put on in the past. Technical aspects are usually run by Gordon McLoud and Jim Wright, two outstanding techs in the field. Jim's Father who is still dipping his hand ran EEC for years very sucessfully. I purchased almost all of our theatre equipment from them and have been nothing but sastisfied.

This CTC sesion was understandably disorganized but those that were there ended up getting a lot more hands on and one to one information
This is a comercial theatre that runs 7 days a week and as such is not perfect and presents a far more real world enviroment than other types of venues

Only a very few years ago the exhib business was a closed shop. There was almost no way to break in, no manuals, no internet, no schools, no information. I'm happy to hear that this school is up and running. I would have jumped on it when I was starting and wondering........where do you get the movies? and everything else as well.
