What film company?
The last time I know of a friend of mine was taken off service was by Paramount back in 1988. He had a twin theatre and had moved Naked Gun from Cinema #1 (the large house with several hundred seats) to the next door attached Cinema #2 (with only two hundred seats)because the picture was dying and doing no business. The picture had been specifically booked for Cinema #1 and Paramount claimed he violated the express terms of the contract. Paramount took my friend "off service" for six full months. My friend was not able to book a Paramount picture during the "off service" penalty period.
If you were a really big chain all you would have to do is promise not to do it again.
Perhaps if you went personally to their offices in sackcloth and ashes........
