In one of my two theatre buildings the oil bill 5 years ago was 6,000.00. This year it went to 20,000.00 and is expected to hit as high as 45 to 50K this year.

One of the good things about owning an old theatre is .... surprise... the boiler room is huge... 25 x 25 with 20' ceiling because they once burned coal.

I have a wood pellet burning furnace tech coming Monday and it looks like a 40K install that will nearly pay for itself during the same season. Pellets right now would replace my heat from last year for 14,000.00.

More interestingly I have spoken with two of my neighbors about proving them with heat from my boiler and they are both interested. Maybe I'm in the heat business not the popcorn business?

Mike

I'll keep you posted.

Please keep us updated! The idea sounds great and the paper mill about 2 blocks from one of my locations is putting up a pelletizer for that type of pellet--sure would be cheap shipping on the pellets!( and probably a pretty nice priced contract from the owner)

I believe that Mr. Kingsley Hall (theater owner) has just installed a pellet heater at his single screen Elma Theatter in Elma, Washington. Check his website: www.elmatheater.org

Tell him Ken Layton sent ya.

a wood boiler would be even cheaper to run but no auto feed system: all hand work.

With pellets there is not a lot of ash. Certainly not as much as with wood. But: I will find out. The boiler people bailed on me yesterday and are now scheduled to return on Weds.

Revision energy is very pricey....try shopping around i know you can save money. Look at hearth.com for local info. A guy in farmington just did an apartment house with a pellet boiler for 10k.
