Business idea, probably not unique, but interesting 10 Jun 2008 20:08 #18791

Hey everyone. I had an idea recently for a type of movie theatre, where everyone sits at tables while watching the movie, and has the ability to indulge in real, non popped or fried food. Real, restaurant quality dinners, as well as possibly alcoholic beverages, probably on a BYOB basis. There would be one or two movies a night, with a theatre maximum capacity of maybe 100 or 150.

Is something like this plausible?

Joe

Yes, this is not a new idea. It has been done in many areas. With the right theatre, in the right area, done right, it can be very successful. Its a natural to provide dinner and a movie together, and yes, most of them also sell alcoholic beverages. I'm sure someone else will chime in here with the website of a few of them. Reset the search and show older dates, this has been talked about before on this board.

Yes "Brew Pubs" and "dinner-with-a-movie" has been talked about alot. Read the archives and FAQ (after first setting your Default Topic View to "Show All Topics").

In the Pacific Northwest, the McMenamin's chain is very successful with this concept. Check their site:

In order to do this succesfully you need to have a really good "restaurant" person and a really good "Movie theatre" person. Unfortunately alot of the cinema pubs have only one or the other... either a crappy on screen presentation and good food, or bad food and good presentation.

BYOB probably won't fly. Even if you could do it, the liability insurance would probably put you out of business.
