I received an e-mail... "I know it's summer but can't you find movies for adults?" This is a reverse when In February you can't find one for the kids. What would you be playing that would draw over Cats/ Doc 2, AI, Tomb Raider, etc? What's hot on the art circuit right now?

We are showing Songcatcher which is a story about a woman passed over for promotion who travels to West Virginia and discovers folk music. So she desides to record it for posterity. The seniors are loving it.

We have Anniversary Party which stars Alan Cumming, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Kline, Phoebe Cates. It was shot on video but looks ok in 35mm. The tag line is "It's not a party, until something gets broken!"

The Man Who Cried stares Christina Ricci, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Johnny Depp and Harry Dean Stanton. Set in occupied Paris during World War II, a young female transient enters the theater world when she meets a famous opera singer. With such a great cast, we expected more out of this one.

Under the Sand is our requisit French film. It did much better than we anticipated.

Big Eden is the story of a gay man who returns home to Montana from NY to find the entire town rooting for him. Ky loves this film. Alas it is having trouble finding a strong audience. But the gay men love it.

And finaly we have Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast. This has been doing steady business for 5 weeks.

We now have a reputation for showing these kinds of films. No kids come here and the adults like it that way. So you could say we are Sonoma County's only Aldult Movie House.
But we don't show porn.

We did very well with With A Friend Like Harry, which is a French thriller in the style of Hitchcock.

Memento had a very nice run at our theatre and was up to 11 or 12 on the nation wide box office charts for a while.

We have high hopes for Startup.com.

There are a few "adult" type films at the big theatres. I think Moulin Rouge has an adult appeal. AI seems to be working for adults better than children. It is doing well with the males 25 and up as more of an intellectual exercise than a mass appeal film.

And this week I am going to see The Score, which is more for adults. Of course I also want to see Final Fantasy and Legally Blonde.

Merci Mssr. Large....... just the answers I was looking for. We played AI, Moulin Rouge, and I am dying to see the Score. IN Sept. we start the Blockbuster Relief Series and most of your list will be on it. The problem is that to play Memento, which would do business, instead of The Fast and The Furious (a peculiar piece of T&A MTV L.A. stupid pee wee car flick. Hey "let's start a truck hijacking gang and we'll drive matched black cars with neon underlights and instead of sticking a gun in the driver's nose at a truck stop we'll climb through his front window underway at 75 MPH!")....we'd get killed on the gross and we need that danged gross to make it! So we endure the "when are you gonna get a real movie!" Which brings me to a new topic.
