I know it's really market driven, but domost of you expand your summer hours to include late shows in the 9:00-9:45 zone?

I'm trying to figure out my employee schedule for the summer and we are not all agreeing on late shows 7 days a week in the peak summer months.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, it is pretty much market driven. Are you new in this location, or do you have any history of what has been done before? Most places expand their hours in the summer in some form or another. Some places add matinees or late shows during the summer weekdays. You can always try it, and if business is slow/not worth it, discontinue it. I would at least try it. Remember, it will also be driven by the movies, if the movies aren't good, it won't matter how many shows you have...
Good Luck

Yes we expand to matinees everyday and a late show everyday. During the school year we do not do a late show Sun - Thurs or matinees.

We add a 9:00-9:45 PM show Sun-Thurs while school is out of session (have them Fri & Sat year round) and special Childrens Matinees at 10:00 AM & 12:30 on Tuesdays (very popular with Day Care Centers and Summer Camps)

two different towns: one is vacationland and one is farm country. We go to 7 nights at 9 from school out to Labor day on the coast. We add two late shows on the weekends in farm town.

How long would you try the expanded schedule? I mean how many weeks would you wait for results? It took me a while to teach the local population what our regular schedule is, even though it is very consistent and simple. Many are still learning I suppose. Now, I'm trying to the expanded summer schedule, but I'm not sure how long I should wait for results.

It can take a long time. We used to have only weekend matinees even in summer. Then we started Fri, Sat, Sun matinees for a year or maybe two then we went to daily matinees for our summer schedule. We always did late shows 7 days a week in the summer.

Just add it to every advertising medium you are currently using. Put it on you marquee, put it in your email to customers, put in you monthly newsletter, put it on your voice recording, put it in your newspaper ad, make up signs, etc. Put it out there for everyone to see.

we decided to stay the same in farm country: 5 days a week/ no late shows though we start them a little later/ 2 matinees on Sat-Sun each. And two martinis.

Our coastal theatre went 7 days a week on Memrial day and will add 7 nights late shows when school is out.

We come down like the iron curtain on Labor Day.

I think you have to give it a season: make an announcement before the shows start!
