I don't do 200-300 times anyones business and I am fighting. When it goes print for print we can't get it out of a theatre and sent to us in time for Friday. URK. Slappy.... what's the problem?

By the way: it took me 6-7 weeks to get a Juno print!

we have a clearence (major chain 8 screen)
that on a per screen average we do 2oo times the bsns they do on a movie...

ie --if they do $5,000 on apic we would do about $15,000.
40 of the 52 weeks a year we out gross the entire complex..(we have 3 screens)
We out gross them even though they get the much bigger movies..

Now on the other 77 screens city wide about 90 % of the time we out gross those theaters on the same pic.

I STILL CANT GET THE PICS I WANT ...THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL..

Your math is a bit fuzzy. $5k vs. $15k is 3x, not 200x. Are you upset about Leatherheads? I don't see anything else they're playing that would play art/upscale.

Coming from retail we would call that 200 times.....Theater terms 3 times is fine with me...

Leatherhaeds is just one of the pics we dont just play upscale art.....

There are times our 3 screen out grosses the 12 plex..

It drives me crazy that we have to play this booking game...

We've been trying to get Horton Hears A Who for several weeks and we finally got it booked for this weekend (and that almost didn't happen). There's at least one theater near us that got it a few weeks before us and presumably that theater isn't doing as well as our theater.

Clearance depends on your state: they tell me this "are you near so and so?" / or rather ask it.... but in Maine "clearnace" is illegal and the Maine AG would gladly have a word with them but that's not my problem. It's really more about just plain getting the print at times.

I would say: you should look into the laws in your state.

There is no clearance law in South Carolina. There is, however, an anti-blind-bidding law...

This practice has been going on all over, forever, and probably always will. I have a friend who has a 2-screen, up against a chain 8-plex. His 2-screen is nicer, better seats, sound, larger capacity, everything. But the chain theatre gets MOST of the film. He has done better with a print on week 6 then the chain theatre did in week 1. The few times he has gotten the good shows, he has shown that he can do the business, but still he doesn't get many. He pays his bills, I think its just the relationship the film companies have with the bigger chains.
