So what is the cost to the studio to put out on digital? How much does it cost to put the movie on a hard drive? Are the hard drices re-usable?</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
The best answer anyone can give on the cost of digital distribution, is that in the long run, it will be a lot less than film.
The key phrase here is, "in the long run." The studios won't save a dime until after the VPFs run out, and all exhibitors are converted to digital.
Another important factor is that digital distribution will be much more secure from a piracy standpoint, since investigators can now use more sophisticated forensic marking on the digital prints to determine the exact time and location where the piracy took place.
The hard drives are reusable.
