I was having a dicussion about the ending of "Shrek" with a friend and she was saying that it would have been better if the Ogre would have married a Human rather then another Ogre. To this I just said that a fairy tale is a fairy tale. As long as it ends happy ever after. Besides if there are little Shrekies running around in the sequel they will be sooooo cute.

The person I was speaking to about this very topic stated that the ending was the one part of the movie that fails it. Shrek should have married the princess (and vice versa) based on their feelings for each other. The whole lesson of the movie is to look beyond first impressions and physical appearance, but in the end, they take the easy route out and make them both realize their ogre nature. Too safe and pat for me!

I disagree with you both. They threw caution to the wind and said "I love you" when they accepted each other as is/where is. Then they kissed. That she became a full time ogre was just another twist.

I agree with Mike that the ending was totally appropriate. Nice touch to have the "Beauty and the Beast" transformation at the church after the first kiss of love, and find that ogres can find true love too. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A very smart and witty film!

I am a bit of an Ogre myself. So I was hoping that he would end up with the princess, not the She Ogre. So I was a little dissapointed. I thought the point should have been, it's not how you look, but how you act that is important.
