I would really like to screen Raiders sometime in May for a fundraiser for a group I run. I think the theater, a discount theater, would be into doing this. They have the capability of showing it either on 35mm or on DVD projector.

Question, how much might this cost us and where do we start? I have looked and the film is available through Swank or Criterion but I don't like the idea of not being able to advertise the fundraiser.

Also, what is the estimated amount a fundraiser like this might bring in? The largest screen is a 200 seat theater. The price of admission is usually $4, but we may raise it for the fundraiser. Any thoughts?

All three of the original Indiana Jones films are out of release because the new one opens on 5/22. Paramount will not take any theatrical bookings on the originals until the new one is gone from theatres.

Approach the theatre you are thinking of to see if they already have fundraising programs in place. We couldn't tell you what you would make as we don't know how your cinema operates for their fundraisers or how many people will go. Just remember if you do raise the ticket price, you will want to offer something extra such as door prizes and/ or supper after the show.

You may not be able to get that film, but the best thing to do is ask them to find out for you. Some film companies don't allow their old films to be shown before a new one..some do though. Good luck!!

Dont show it on a DVD projector! It won't be able to fill the screen, won't have enough light for such a large screen, and not enough resolution for such a screen. Please, use 35mm if you can. You dont want people to be dissapointed by a small, dim, and unclear picture. Also how would you tie the sound in? That could be an issue too. Don't make yourself and the theatre look bad! Go 35mm if you can!

I went to a screening of Casablanca in 2006 that was projected through DVD and that was a beautiful picture. It did not fill up the screen no but the audience did not mind. The picture and sound quality were marvelous. But, I would go after 35mm if I could. Paramount is not leasing out Raiders now because of the new film coming up? Darn. Makes sense I guess. What are some other films that might go over well? Maybe some old James Bond film.. Some of these sites offer old Disney films like Snow White. My question still is, who do I contact about getting ahold of a film

Whichever theatre you are using should be able to arrange the booking for you. Ask them about that.

And, BTW...you can't get classic Disney animated titles either.

Larry,

I am starting to question if you know what you are talking about. Some Disney films no you can't get. Some classics you can though. Criterion and Swank both list Snow White as titles

I have never seen a DISNEY movie through SWANK.

I doubt SNOW WHITE is the Disney Snow White..

You're right. I'm a moron. However, I suggest you contact Mary Tallungan at Disney Non-Theatrical in LA and ask her about a theatrical booking for a classic Disney animated film. She is the person who handles any theatrical bookings in 35mm for the library.

I sure hope it's not the R rated or X rated version that was out in the early 80's!

not sure how well that would go over for a fund raiser!

Right there is a link to where Swank offers Disney's Snow White

On 35mm, they also offer Sword in the Stone, Pinochio, Lady and the Tramp, Fantasia, 101 Dalmations, Bambi, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Robin Hood, THE RESCUERS , The Fox and the Hound, and Dumbo. That's it, but that is a pretty damn extensive list of titles to choose from

So......

what is it, available? but to non-theatrical?

Then, Josh and Larry both could be right?

Swank is great to work with---BUT---the red tape and does and don'ts to show a Disney movie sometimes outways the benefits--things as not being able to advertise the title.
