I just received the following note from Paramount, through my booker.

"Please be advised that unless Steven Spielberg has a last minute change of heart, INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL will NOT be available in the Digital format."

That is a very unusual decision, considering that George Lucas is a producer on the pic, and has been a strong proponent of D-Cinema for many years. It will be a blow to the ego of the D-Cinema community, that's for sure.

One of the key selling points for D-Cinema has been that ALL wide releases would be availale in digital format, from ALL studios.

I'm not quite sure how to interpret this, but it seems that a very influential film maker (Speilberg) is not completely satisfied with D-Cinema.

Wow. That seems to say to me that 35mm will be around longer than some people think. If your theatre is all digital, there would be no way to show INDIANA JONES?

I just saw my first operational digital projectors last week while on a short road trip. It was interesting to see. They were in an older, small chain-run, three screen. Nothing fancy in the place--except for the three digital projectors; one of which was set up for 3-D and playing Hannah Montana.

I was told they have had a lot of problems since they were installed--lots of bugs to work out.

All their platters were disassembled and leaning up against the hallways in the booth. Kinda sad, but exciting at the same time. Very interesting to see.

George Lucas is a guest at ShoWest this year (new Star Wars animation series coming out to promote), so maybe he will answer this question himself. It may also be possible to ask the question, depending on which forum he's going to be involved in.

Seems like it is still up in the air and they hope to have an answer at ShoWest.
