I have been looking for movie theater information for weeks. So you'll understand how stoked I am to find this website.

I have spent the last couple hours looking through posts on the cost of renting a new movie. I am afraid to go off of information six or seven years ago, but I know you guys are tired of answering this question.

If there is a link to a post about the costs of renting a movie, I would be forever grateful.

And btw, thanks for keeping up the buildings that built so much of my life thus far. And yes, while true, I am trying to butter you up.

In several posts of various topics it seam the consensus here is you can use 50% for an average in an average first run theatre. That could be considered the average across a year. Just getting started may cost you deposit money up front until you have credit established. But some pictures will start at 70% and then go down as you play them each week. Others if you do really well can cost 90/10 vs. house allowance. Search on house allowance and there is a great post that explains this and film rent.

older films that are still in release are in the 35% of your gross/ the newer and the bigger the picture the higher the weekly (best week) terms. Newer films require longer holdover: big pictures in bigger markets can run as long as 8 weeks and more depending on gross. Smaller towns can run as short as 2 weeks. We play mostly first run with lots of catch up and indies thrown in and average +/- 51% film costs for the year on the gross tik sale.

Amazing. I'm going to be researching that now. So it sounds like its a percentage. Thanks for the amazingly quick reply!
