As a booker as well as an exhibitor, I can report that the first runs have been extremely slow this September, but the subruns are about the same as last year. The reason being of course for the subrun performance is that they are still playing the decent product from the end of the summer. The subs will run out of decent product at the end of October.
At my subrun single screen, My September has been as follows: Transformers-Fair, Waitress-Good, Two weeks of Hairspray-Excellent and Good. October will start out with Harry Potter, followed by Chuck & Larry, The Simpsons Movie and then Bourne Ultimatum. Therefore Oct. should be OK. November looks like a disaster. From Dec. 1st through the 21st I may be closed for public movies, as I have live shows or rentals scheduled to fill most of that time. Thank god for the stage.
Now I just hope something breaks lose from the November releases to give me a good Christmas picture.
