I'm thinking of scheduling a film fest for our theatre in a slow week. Have you ever done this? Started one up fresh? I'm thinking of a certain type of genre. Like Noir films? Or all comedy? Or some such. What do you think?

We just finished our 3rd Annual Whiskey Creek Film Festival and our grosses were 4 to 5 times better than they would have been ordinarily. This is the first year we have expanded the festival to a full week and we run the films on two of our three screens. You can visit our festival website at www.whiskeycreekfilmfestival.org. We started this film festival three years ago and purposely hold it in the middle of September due to the lack of product this time of year.

we do a whiskey creek like fest twice a year but we show the films weekly, one per week. Then we really did a whiskey creek style show at the Temple with 18 films over 5 days. I think mid sept is great but I'm more likely to take a vaction than work harder in Sept!

4thgen, that looks like a great line-up for your festival.

How did you get Wal-Mart to be a sponsor???
Around here they NEVER EVER sponsor anything. They don't even let the Girl Scouts sell cookies any more.

I'm not sure how they got Wal-Mart to sponsor the festival. Someone else on the festival board is responsible for lining up the sponsors. The Wal-Mart has only been open in our town since last January so maybe that has something to do with it. When they first open they handed out thousands of dollars to local civic organizations and other worthwhile causes like the fire department.
