Hello. I am a 25 year old film critic living in Montana. I have no clue what it takes to run a theater but I am interested. What I am interested in doing is turning my favorite theater from my childhood into a Film Pub. It'll be a nice place to eat, drink, and watch a film. The theater is, I think, a landmark but it just sits there now. A coworker once opened it up again and played older films but he had to stop doing it because of health reasons. He stopped doing it in 1995. I think it would be great to bring people in for food, beer and a movie. It could run second run second run films and older films. What I want to know is where can I find a Distribution site online that has a list of films and their rental prices. Please do not direct me to the directory here because I went there and it was no help. I have found sites that have long lists of past hits.

I think this could be a great idea for me to investigate in years to come. What do you all think? This kind of place could be big with adults and especially the college crowd since I could set aside late shows on Friday and Saturday that would really appeal to them.

In Oregon (especially the Portland area) the McMenamin brothers have a chain of very successful "brew pub" theaters (www.mcmenamin.com).

In Kelso, Washington is the Kelso Theater (independent) brew pub (www.ktpub.com). They also have a stage and occasionally bring in a live act like a hypnotist or comedian.

This is not a task readily performed online. You need to talk with a booking agent. As a first try, I'd suggest that you track down the owner of an independent theater in a near-by town; ask who books their films.

The thing is that I have found the site online that gives a rundown of costs for renting 16 and 35mm films. There are a lot of them for independent films but the one I saw was a agency distrubting well known films
