hello all, great forum here, i must say(even though some info is out of date)

I do not work for or own a theater, but I am managing and developing a website online that will be marketed to the film industry.

I am wondering if anyone knows what it would take to get movie trailers and especially any promotional featurettes for movies ahead of release.

The reason I would like to atain this material is because it is part of the content we are looking to provide within our community.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, Brenden.

Your description of your efforts is a bit cryptic, but here's some info:

Most advertising materials, whether they be posters, trailers or promotional materials are owned outright by the studios. SOME materials, like some of the posters you see in mall stores are licensed for sale by the studios.

Anywhere you go with this, you'll have to deal with the studios. They own the stuff, and you can't sell it without their OK.

thanks jack, let me clearify...

we are going to host trailers and other videos relating to individual movies to promote those movies.

I don't want to sell them, I simply want to be able to have them to provide for our site visitors...

does that make more sense?

Is it difficult to get these videos and trailers and what not ahead of time in a quality format, much like movie theaters get in the movie previews?

It's hard enough for many of US to get that stuff. However, the name of the game is finding ways to get people to the theatre. If a studio's promotions department thinks you have a good idea, it's certainly possible.

In any case, I think that's where you'd want to start.

Good luck!

Jack

Any advice on how to find contact info that is current for different companies?

It's been some what difficult to find much info online related to marketing materials, trailers, and the like.

thanks!

I'll have to see what my daughter can come up with. She's taken over that department over the past couple of years.

The studios all have an "exhibitor relations" department. I suppose you could Google most any of them and ask for phone numbers or email addresses. You might also look around for a film booker in your area. Most of them have that information, and maybe an opinion or two regarding how you might go about your project.

It sounds to me that you are talking about on line trailers. Is that so? If so: theya re a dime a dozen and free for the grabbing. Contact studio "exhibitor relations" or register for their sites. They send us their trailers/ on line/ all the time. It's not a mystery, they are counting on people to promote their films. Mike

ok i found exhibitor relations sites for 3 major studios, but I do not own or operate a theater.

I select Independent but then I cannot select Home Office as that is all that applies to me.

Do I have to go through another middle man to sign up for trailers and what not with the studios?

Hi Mate

try this site

http://www.apple.com/trailers/

It's also very good for movie summaries for your website.

We actually have used apple for quite some time and it has worked out great.

The only reason i'm interested in exhibitor relations is I was hoping we could get it a few days sooner than apple does even.

Perhaps this is unrealistic though?

Thanks for the tip though, I appreciate it!
