I have two huge closets full movie posters, trailers, and other promotional stuff. I don't know why I'm saving it. What do all of you do with this stuff?

I will sell a customer a poster for $5, banner or bus shelter for $15 and a standee for $25. I keep a list of what I have put back. I do not advertise this but make it known if a customer asks. Money goes into my employee "bonus fund" which I use to reward performance.

Rmember your contract with several of the big companies say you can not sell promo items and they can pull all their films from you. I don't think I want Disney pulling my bread and butter movies over $5.

I had a friend who was selling trailers on Ebay and he got a stop now letter.

Selling trailers is a little different to selling a poster.

I would suggest, however, that you don't sell them from an eBay account called BobsTheaterOfPeoria, however.

If you want to do some creative marketing perhaps you could hook up with a radio station and restaurant and do giveaways with
dinner, movie tickets and free movie memorabilia.

I've heard of theatres donating stuff to Goodwill/Schools/Charity etc. to be used as silent auction items at fundraisers. Its amazing how much someone will donate to charity for a banner.

Some theatres give them to the staff as rewards, or at christmas time.

Some schools use some of the posters for decorating for theme dances/proms etc..

OMG (that's teen talk for Oh MY God!)

I have no idea what studio can take the time to police what you might be doing with your old trailers and posters. I cannot believe they'd pick up the phone. Can you see it? "Hello 911? Bijoux Theatre in Ohmygod, Washington is SELLING their old posters!"

We do a couple of things with posters:

1. we save the best and the hottest.
2. we have two sales every year as part of Christmas and a summer fest and bring in +/- 1000.00.
3. trailers can be sold on eBay and there are hundreds of them there. Also they cut them up and sell framed cells.
4. eBay is a really big deal. Buying and selling.
5. we have seen theatres where the posters are for sale in the lobby.
6. we used to keep trailers thinking these would be valuable one day and then we started sinking from them! We now fill film cans and send them on.
