I'm interested in opening a lavish single screen theater that calls back to the theaters of yester-year. Also, I want to play nothing but classic movies. So, my biggest question is, how can I legally show classic movies and charge an admission. Let's use The Exorcist as an example. If I wanted to show this film and charge an admission, would I first have to get permission from Warner Brothers, and then would I have to pay them a percentage? If anyone could fill me in on the routes I would have to take I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

welcome to the forum.

please look at the archives as this topic has been done to death. The short answer is yes you have to pay WB and it probably won't be practical financially.

You may consider along with Classical, art house movies. Which go hand in hand! You can not survive on Classics alone!

Oh, trust me. If I were to open a theater I would play all sorts of movies, but they would all be movies that you couldn't see in a theater anymore. The reason I would do this is because there were so many fantastic movies that came out in theaters long before I was even born and I want a chance to see those movies up on the big screen and I've come to the conclusion that the only way that's going to be possible is if it's my big screen it's up on. So, thank you for your suggestion! Art house movies it is!
