I am knew to the theatre side of the movie business but have been in home video for 14 years.

Is it just me or does it seem like the January release slate is pretty poor vs. last year?

I am mainstream, wide release, family friendly films, etc.

Yes, but on the other hand a lot of good films released in Dec. so there is a lot to catch up on! Plus, many films are released with only a few cities/prints to make the Acad Awards.

The problem I have with playing these "catch-up films" is how to get people to know you will have them.

You do not know until 3 days before so there is no opportunity to promote the film in-house.

My current problem is that we have been promoting Happily Never After to now find out that we will not be able to get it.

Our market has a 12-plex so our target audience has a good chance to see most of the bigger titles (2000+ prints) during the first 2 weeks of release.

We really bombed by playing Casino Royale on the 4th week of release.
