Guys I want to set-up a Multiplex venture in my home country of Pakistan, I have the finance but no Idea of how to go about it. I would prefer to partner up with a large Multiplex operator that has licensing agreements in place with the big distributors. There are no multiplexes here and only about a dozen cinemas in my city Karachi, which is incidentally the 5th largest city in the world. All the nice cinemas were bulldozed and ugly commercial complexes were put in their place. Pakistan is a big country (140 million people and only about 250 cinemas in total, would you believe that.) There are no bars and dance clubs so movies can be a big draw for an entertainment starved population. I have run some initial numbers and they look good, plus judging from the response movies like Casino Royale, Miami Vice e.t.c got when they were released the profits to be made are mind blowing. There is only one other company in the whole country that is looking into Multiplexes and it is supported by a Mexican firm by the name of Grupo Cinemex S.A. Now I am looking to take the next step and actually find someone to partner up with and start the venture. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.

I would get the complete last year isues of Box Office and Film Journal magazine. They all cover the international players in your neighborhood. There are complete issues devoted to your neighborhood. I believe there is also an Indian magazine put out by VNU that is regional in that it covers/serves China, India, Pakistan, etc. Partnering/ etc. with an established cinema builder/developer seems like the correct course. Starting brand new in a market such as Pakistan would seem to have a lot of unknowns for me to even attempt to guess at what they might be. There are consultants and companies that will assist as well if you want to go solo.
