oh geez.......... 14 people for opening night. Mark it down as I should have known better. It's supposed to be a decent film but I sadly think the public really loved the violence of Passion in the same way they love Saw. Next time: Santa Clause 3 gets the slot. Or anything with real boxoffice appeal. Unless there's a huge bonfire like with Passion.

Mike,

I wanted to move "Santa 3" this week from one location to another--they let me come off but would not give me a "new date" this week--Their reason was "slowest week of the year" so--it went to the depot with a "new" booking already confirmed for the 8th! I guess they know better than me--but I really wanted to play for 2 weeks, now I can only play for one as opening with "Charlotte" the 15th

Hey Mike!

You knew it was going to be a Christian film. Did you contact any of the churches in your area?

Yes. I did quite a bit of outreach and so far similar results as our host. Having been in the biz for 20+ years, I knew this weekend was always the pits. I thought the fate of this pic might be different. Wrong. I do have some special shows set up for the weekdays though.

I do not understand how I keep slipping out of the net on this weekend. I am running 'Flushed Away' and while I'm certainly not overly busy, I am still ABOVE average so far this weekend. Any ideas? I'd sure like to think I know what I'm doing, but I think I'd be fooling myself...

We are doing well above average this weekend also. So it looks like "the weekend" passed us by this year. Last year the first weekend in Dec was the pits for us. So it does have it's history as being a down weekend for us. The Nativity is pretty much a dud for us also.

This weekend has been pretty bad for us as well, even when we're showing a big picture like Casino Royale, which has been the #2 movie for the past 3 consecutive weeks.

For those of you who are showing Nativity Story, are you getting any church groups to come in to do special showings? We were able to get a couple of special showings for Passion of the Christ and I've heard the same thing about Riding the Giants. I would think this one would do the same, especially with the family friendly PG rating.

Very lukewarm response from the numerous churches I've contacted. This just doesn't seem to be a must-see picture for them. Our booker is looking to hold this thru Xmas week but I doubt there will be much left in it by then. And with 6 movies coming my way between the 20th and 25th and only 7 screens, I doubt this will be the one to hold through.

This movie will not improve.... just like every other movie that starts dismally it will only get worse. I promoted the film to the very active Christian community but there is no buzz. We will have some shows with groups but no great shakes. And anyone who thinks that even the interested will pass on Night at the Museum and Charlotte, etc. will bet on the worng pony. I take a lot of pleasure in being able to say to my Christian friends I brought the film in, even if no one came to see it, and the same cannot be said for the Saw's of the world. Oh well: the difference between Nativity and Saw is that a lot more people would have come to see saw. See saw. Get it? Oh well....

What hurt this one is the 16 year old lead actress is an unwed pregnant mother.
Alot of christian groups got wind of that and it was the end of this before it even started!

Oh geez! Mel Gibson was a womanizing, boozing anti-semite(even before the recent arrest) and that didn't seem to hurt Passion at all.

"The Nativity Story" seems to be a "been there, done that" treatment. Just rewatched part 1 of television's "Jesus of Nazareth" from 20 years ago, and the style was very similar.

All the churches we talked to said they had tight schedules. Mainly because they had their own shows, pagents, muscials etc. for the Christmas holidays.

Reply to Reelman:

Yes I agree with the problems with Mel, but those allegations came out after! The type of movie Passion was played to a different type of audience then the Nativity which is geared to family's!
