Anyone out there still run midnight movies on a regular basis (other than ROCKY HORROR), and if so, what's been successful lately?

This seems to be a niche that's getting harder to book every year.

Gave up midnight movies last year. Too costly for too little return.

Heck you can hardly get anyone to come to a show starting after 9 PM anymore ..... let alone starting at Midnight.

http://members.tripod.com/~g_cowardin/byrd/ is a theater that plays Midnight movies with sucess and has past features so you can get an idea!
I was told Matrix, Evil dead, The Wall, Road Warrior, Grease to name a few are doing well.

You also can get a sponsor for midnight movies. The big chain by us has a used video game store sponsor them with radio spots.

I saw a guy just opened an indoor bicycle dirt track in an empty factory and he is doing really well. My thought: you need population. People and their interests are so deeply segmented these days. Yes you can do midnight shows: if you have the population. They came of age with the baby boomers and guess what? They are all in their 50's now. There just is not as many kids or teeen or 20's that are the heart of a midnight show. But in a denser area: there's plenty. And all you need is the correct marketing and management and you can do fine.

We had a few good years of running Midnite Flicks. That is, up until the summer of 2004. Summer of 2005 we booked PEE WEEs BIG ADVENTURE, HOLY GRAIL, LIFE OF BRIAN, NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE and a few others. All with terrible attendance. We had advertised these for over a month and a half prior to screening them. Times have changed, so has the type of kids that will get out to the midnights. A few of the Milwaukee theatres have also stopped running Midnights. Too bad, as it was fun when it lasted.
