In anothe rpost it was asked "does decorating help?" and the answer is GOOD QUESTION.

We do a lot of in house decor/ seasonal/ shows/ events/ reviews/ etc. etc.

SOmetimes it helps: we had litters of Dalmatian puppies in the lobby: mayhem. We had baby bunnies pre Easter in our windows. We had blow up snakes for..... Snakes on a plane! Etc. Etc.

Does it help?

Snakes? Nothing could have helped.

We won best promotion from Sony for Zorro. 2500.00 first prize. We had a Zorro suit, Zorro on the roof, sword fighting, kids pinata, dress up contest, etc. etc. It did not seem to help the gross.

Mad Hot Ballroom/ we had the street closed and 20 couple dancing ballroom! It was cool and seemed to help.

It does create excitement and that seems to spill over into sales and future excitement so that we remain an exciting "you never know" option.

Mike shows lots of imagination at his place, and that should inspire others. True, not every promotion will 'Wow' them and sell out the house, but as he points out, it does create "future excitement" so that the public comes to accept that they just don't know what that theatre will come up with next! And that is at the heart of entertainment: SHOWMANSHIP. Surprise and excitement are one's stock in trade, and keeping the audience guessing is part of entertainment.

We have done some decorating over the years. But, how do you measure success? Usually the movie is a dog. Small town theatres don't get any help from the studios. I've been trying to get promotional stuff for SAW 3 direct from Lions Gate. Well, good luck...not even a poster! The old line...call back. Hell, maybe we should just buy the crap on Ebay.

During TOMB RAIDER, we attempted to get our local Jeep dealer to bring the limited edition Jeep Wrangler down to the theatre to display on our front sidewalk. We were willing to pay for the sidewalk permit, but RUSS DARROW dealership wasn't interested. I remember years ago having the HERBIE VW lovebug parked all week in front of the theatre. Times have changed.
