Hello,

I am looking into opening a Video Store with a 75-100 seat screening room in the back. I am new to the industry and I was wondering how one would go about securing the rights to show DVD's? Do you go through a film booker as well?

Also - when booking films how do you know what format they come in? Are most films 35mm?

Thank you for any help/advice you can offer.

new to the video biz? I thought that was something NetFlix was really giving a run?

Look around the forums and you will find a great many answers to this question. The short answer is that dvd's can be shown in a theatre but (BUT) they must be booked with the film companies just like films and most of them are very uninterested in doing this and will be much less than helpful.

as a video store owner, i can tell you that technically you need public show rights to air a movie in your store. i don't know any mom and pop store that does that.

but if you were doing a 75-100 seater, you need to go to www.swank.com. they will 'rent' you the public show rights for 150 on up depending on title. they don't do new releases (as in theaters) but can get rights to day and date for dvd releases.

good luck
