Be sure to plan early for the opening of the new live-action Transformers movie on the coveted July 4 2007 weekend. Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks, Paramount, and Hasbro are behind it big time and it has a $150M budget, so you can bet it will be advertised like crazy. I would encourage a 12:01am showing- the Transformers have made a comeback to children over the past few years, so the movie is sure to cover a very wide age range.

The teaser trailer is great:

It will have it's 9 days, like Superman Returns got this year. Then Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will completly grab away it's audience on July 13th.

When it rains it pours, and I can see lots of repeat viewings for both movies. July will be big again next year for sure.

Looking more like a flood for about 60 days May thru July.

5/4 Spiderman 3
5/18 Shrek 3
5/25 Pirates Caribbean 3
6/8 Oceans 13
6/15 Fantastic Four 2
6/29 Ratatouille
7/4 Transformers
7/13 Harry Potter
7/27 The Simpsons Movie

And another 10 or so as of this posting not listed above... A lot of tough choices for all the single screen operators.

I agree with you Sevstar. The movie studios need to space their movies better, especially in May. It's going to be very hard for some of those movies to perform very well, especially if they have to compete so closely with each other.

I'm not familiar with Ratatouille. I'm not going to expect much out of Ocean's 13. When we showed Ocean's 12, it did very poorly and most people said it was hard to follow. At least that's an easy decision for the busy summer

Here's the site and trailer for Ratatouille:

The studios definitely need to space the release dates further apart. They are slitting their own throats. Now might be a good time to add that second screen with a new blockbuster coming out virtually every week during those months.

I thought Harry Potter did much better with the christmas release. In fact a WB sales rep told me they would not do another summer Harry Potter because she said the christmas time release did much better.

They've changed release dates before, maybe they will change some once they realize how crowded those months are.
