This is another year where Christmas and New Years eve/day fall on the weekend. What do you plan to do with your theaters during these days? Will you close early, open early, only show matinee shows, only show evening shows, stay open as you would any other day, or even close on any of these days? Also, what are you going to do with Christmas, considering it falls on a Sunday this year, generally a church going day? I've heard on the news that many churches are going to close on Christmas this year because they had poor turnouts the last time Christmas was on a Sunday (1994).

We are in two small towns. We decided long ago: we're closed for Xmas Eve and all day Xmas. It's lousy that this year we have a Sat-Sun but what the heck. Last year it was Friday-Sat! We are open New Year's eve and day.

Thanks for all of your input.

I think for our 4-screen, we'll only do early shows on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

But one thing I'm concerned about is what to do about Christmas Day and New Years Day. These both fall on a Sunday. Generally at our 4-screen, we'll be busy for the matinee (as long as we have a good family movie) but the 2 evening shows will be slow. I'm just wondering if it's going to be worth it to be open for just 1 or 2 evening shows on those days if the evening shows are generally slow on most Sundays? Also, with many people going to work on Monday, will they want to be out for a movie Sunday night? It probably wouldn't be a big deal to be open for the evenings on New Years Day, but I still have my concerns about Christmas on Sunday.

Generally, New Year's Day is one of the best show days of the holiday period.

Also, many places give Monday as the holiday if the actual day falls on Sunday, so I'm guessing most folks will be off on Monday as well.

The reality is that in the larger markets Xmas day is a big day at the movies. Xmas Eve is not. Small towns are different than in larger areas.

We run Matinees only Christmas Eve and evening shows only on christmas day. People get ties of relatives and want to go out Christmas night. Probably why studios are stating to release on Christmas day.

We run full schedule news year eve and News Year day. Yes New Years day can be very busy.
