Steven Soderburgh http://imdb.com/name/nm0001752/ will release 5 films day and date on DVD and theatrical. Will you play those films? We will not.

As a subrun I'd have to play them AFTER their DVD release. I will NOT do that.

Depends on the film and its gross potential. I have to fill 14 screens in one location, usually without multiple prints!

My thoughts are that
(1) He is doing it to obtain more publicity and to be the first. Now more people know his name and the movie will get alot of free publicity in the papers.
(2) The movies are probably not going to be that good to last in a cinema anyway.
(3) The movies will also flop on dvd because they will not receive the recognition from the film industry marketing. The film industry is also known for only screening top quality films and if we don't screen it then the public will think it is not top quality.
(4) He is not a big enough drawcard for people to just go out and buy/rent the dvd without a theatrical release. eg I'd be more worried if it was something people had to see like Matrix 2, a Narnia etc, Incredibles 2 etc.
(5) There's planty of other movies that we can screen which wouldn't even make a dent in our programming, if we didn't screen one movie.
(6) I hope alot of cinemas don't screen it so the movie falls flat on his face, the 24/7 company or whatever it is called goes bankrupt and that is the end of him.
(7) If some cinemas do screen the film then it will die very quick and it won't have that much legs because there is a big second market with the movie with dvd, cable etc I could see alot of cinemas asking for a reduction in policy which would therefore mean he will lose more money releasing it in cinemas because of print costs etc.
No I will not screen the movie either.
