The stupidest customer question? My fave is still: "What do you do for your day job?"

The above was stolen from Avalon......

When asked if we had free water we nicely gave the lady a cup and and said she could fill it in the ladies room. We don't have a sink behind the concession stand. She looked at us with a horrified face and said "Fill it in the toilet bowl?!"

In regards to free water, as we do sell bottled water as most theatres do these days, we do the same when asked for FREE water, but we phrase it a little different by saying...you can fill it at the SINK in the rest room, and we still get "What, you mean use bathroom water?" and we reply...it's the same water as the soda machine, and people go...really? And people wonder why I'm for vouchers and charter schools?

Then there is the stupidest response ever...

It just goes to show how many people pay no attention to the person behind the counter.

After telling someone to "enjoy the movie" -- 90 percent of people say "you too"! Most do not even realize it!

This could also be competition for the stupid question: "What size are your popcorn bags" as they are staring the consumers in the face as they approach the counter!

One of my asst managers and I were transporting a film across the lobby to the other booth. Here we are struggling with it aith clamps etc. A lady stops us and asks " Do you have a VCR big enough to play that in?" I always Enjoyed the ushers who got on the radio to call a manager and they would ask " Mr (X) Do you hav a radio?" Hmm Could they answer if they didn't I love the toilet water response.

How about, "what time does the midnight show start?"

Ken:

That does sound like a pretty stupid question, however, as a collector of old movie ads from various sources I must come in defense of that one. I have numerous ads from the 20's and 30's from some very prestigious theatres (including The San Francisco Fox) that advertised "Midnight Show Every Saturday night at 11:30" The thinking was that the show went through and beyond midnight and didn't have to start at that time. It just meant that you were there at that time.

Any of you that have spent time behind the scenes in the drive-in theatre biz have probably heard this one. "What time does your MATINEE begin?"

Ah, yes the "Matinee" question at the drive-in . . . . Heard it many times. I once responded, "The nuclear reactor we use for our day time light source is in the shop. Check back with us next week."
