Doesn't matter if it is good or bad this is a piece of Cinema history and will do big numbers.
Look at Phantom Menace that was horrible and it is the 5th all time highest gross of all time!
I wish everyone the best who booked it and hope you laugh all the way to the bank on this one!

How is Star Wars doing for your theater? The theater I am at 4 screens was big on opening weekend but has sputtered and playing to empty theaters. They have already moved the prints from the larger theaters to the smaller theaters to make room for Madagascar and The Longest Yard!
Still another 8 weeks to play!

Jacker,

Already moving to a smaller screen? What happened to the contract stipulation that it must remain on the same screen it opened on for the entire engagement?

Thank you Roxy! My question exactly. I'm going to be watching this carefully amongst my competitors too.

They don't seem to really care about that on this one ... as long as it is played in Digital Sound, if available.

Oh, so it is OK to ignore the contract that we just signed for this particular film?

Depends on what your particular contract states ... and what was lined out, initialed, and not questioned ...

I would be very surprised if Fox agreed to any contract changes initiated by the exhibitor before licensing Star Wars. They can still take any exhibitor off service at any moment that they want to, so it really boils down to whether they are letting us all ignore the terms they demanded up front without reprisals.

I did not agree to Fox demanding auditorium placement ... I'm the exhibitor ... determining what auditorium a picture is best suited to play in is MY job ... not the distributors. I only agreed to play it in digital sound.

Star Wars-70 mil is still pretty good for this weekend takes. Someone is doing good with it!
And the two runner ups Madagascar and The Endless yard weren't to bad either 60 mil each.
Looks like things may be looking up and hopefully make up for the bad spring and late winter.
