I purchased my second theatre yesterday. It will close escrow on or near Dec. 31. It is another single screen near me and currently seats about 350. I will be closing it down for some major renovations/upgrades and will open it back up in the spring.

Congratulations! I'm happy for you but wow! Just when you have finished all the work on Mt Burney, now you have to start all over on the next one. May it bring as much luck and community support as you have enjoyed in the past few years.

Way to go Burney!!!

I'm jealous. I'm working for an outfit now where I am a manager in name only. I'd love to have my own place. Best of luck. I still hope to get down there and meet you one day.

Congrats Donna/ how did I miss the news! How far away? I think you'll find that the booking options for you to "self circuit" .....aka move it yourself.... prints will give you a lot more biz at both houses. Instead of fighting each other you'll coop the two screens. Give 'em heck!

The theatre is about 20 miles away. It is a single screen currently with 294 seats including the balcony--counted 'em today. The lower section is 58 1/2' x 44'; that is from the front of the screen to the back row of seats. The screen is only 29 1/2' wide. Mt. Burney's is 33' and the room is narrower. The new one has storage rooms on both sides of the screen.

It needs a lot of work and a lot of cleaning. Got an estimate for sanding and refinishing the red fir floors today. The same guy did the Mt. Burney Theatre. He nearly doubled his price for this one. My son does excellent woodwork and will do it himself.

The lobby is pretty good size, much bigger than Mt. Burney. It has potential. I will be more descriptive once it closes escrow next week.

I took some photo's today. How do I post them?

Can you help me with some info on operating a theatre? I need to convince my city's chamber of commerce that a movie theatre will benefit the city.

I need to know: number of employees, annual revenue, and whatevr info would benefit the city. Also, if you have a business plan or proposal, could you share it with me.

I won't be competition to you because I'm down in here in South Carolina.

Just an update on my new theatre. We finished putting up the side curtains today and they look great. We used the old hooks--similar to Soundfold. It worked great. It took four of us (three volunteers and myself) four days to complete the job. Fortunately the guy attaching the bottom of the curtains was a perfectionist. He did a fantastic job. I get the concession cabinets and soda machine next week. The screen came Wednesday and will be installed next week. After next week, I will be waiting for the seats. Once they are in the carpet installer will install the new carpet and the open sign can go up!

Well, I survived the grand opening. The place was packed. My help was inexperienced. I was a stress case. But the audience was wonderful and very supportive. They were very appreciative of the hard work my neighbor and I have put in the place. The movie sounded awesome and they liked that alot. Overall, I am very much relieved I have some more income to offset the enormous expense. I think it will do well.

Congradulations Donna. I've seen it and it is very good. Be relentless with the staff. They will come to know it and love it. Donna's theatre is the best aspect of the community.
