Formerly the Clearview Chelsea West, this is a 2-theater complex operated by the School of Visual Arts in New York City opened in January of 2009. Seating capacities of 280 and 480, the theater has a large lobby suitable for receptions, a food warming and cooling facility, stages in both houses, professional stage lighting and the best image in the City. The large theater has 70mm, 35mm, 16mm and NEC D-Cinema; a 50 foot screen and Dolby surround sound. The small theater is similarly equipped except for 70mm and has a 40 foot screen. Changeover systems for archival print screening. Designed by famed graphic artist Milton Glaser, the facade on 23rd street between 8th & 9th Avenues features a 40 foot graphic display wall and a kinetic sculpture over the marquee deigned by Glaser. The Visual Arts Theater is a showcase for students, faculty and alumni of the school, one of the world's leading universities of the arts. It is also available for outside rentals for clients related to the school's mission.
